Mariachi Sundays in Old Mesilla on the Plaza

In the Mesilla Valley, temperatures began to get cooler, the color of the leaves start changing, and the crisp sounds of the vihuela complimenting the melody of violins and trumpets fill the air. In Las Cruces that is how we know fall is here! The Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference returns to celebrate 28 Years and they are rolling out the red carpet and bringing the Spectacular Concert back to the Pan American Center on November 12, 2021.

To kick off what is known as “Mariachi Season”, the conference, with the help of the Town of Mesilla and several local businesses, will host Mesilla Sundays on October 10 and October 24. Enjoy an evening of Mariachis, Ballet Folklorico dancers, and amazing solo artists as the Mariachi Conference helps get the community and participants excited and ready for the week-long conference that will take place November 10-13, 2021. Along with entertainment, organizers of the annual conference will have raffle tickets to enter to win a 1993 Pimentel Guitar valued at $2,500. All funds raised with the raffle go towards student scholarships to attend this year’s conference. Organizers will also have tickets to the Spectacular Concert available for purchase during Mesilla Sundays.

Las Cruces International Mariachi Conference is now in its 28th year and is a world-renowned event that focuses on education and entertainment. Over 14,000 students of all ages have attended the annual four-day Conference, with three days of educational workshops in Mariachi music, voice, and folkloric dance. The workshops offer a quality educational experience through a unique cultural arts program. All proceeds from the annual event support various programs under the New Mexico Advocates for the Arts that improve the quality of life and promote cultural arts education across southern New Mexico.

“Preserving and enhancing the traditional art forms of Mariachi Music and Folkloric Dance has always been the primary goal of the LCIMC. Over the past year or so, such opportunities to educate and train new performers in these longstanding cultural art forms have almost disappeared. A supportive community helps ensure that won’t happen!” said Director, Robert Palacios.
